A new service is being set up for people with diabetes in Lincolnshire. Specialist nurses and dieticians will help patients and families handle the condition. Currently there are 24,000 people with diabetes in the county.
It is hoped improved information given to patients with type two diabetes will help them manage it more effectively.
Health managers also want diabetics who have had the condition for some time to help newly diagnosed patients by sharing their experience and knowledge.
Nationally diabetes costs the NHS nearly 10m every day, with patients taking up 10% of hospital beds.
