Charging visitors to Lincoln Cathedral has helped clear debts |
A controversial decision to charge visitors to enter Lincoln Cathedral has paid off financially, according to church officials. Until recently, the minster had an accumulated debt of 600,000, but it is now back in the black. The most recent accounts show a surplus of 141,000.
Dean of Lincoln Alec Knight said the cathedral had earned twice as much money since charging began.
Fees for visitors replaced voluntary donations in April 2000.
