More than 35 schools have been closed in Lincolnshire because of heavy snowfall overnight and on Wednesday. The county council's gritters have been out all night but many roads are still said to be treacherous because of ice.
Police are advising people not to go out on the roads unless they have to as it is not safe. A snow plough came off a road in the poor conditions.
Weather forecasters are predicting further snow and icy conditions throughout this afternoon and evening.
Insp Jim Keanan from Lincolnshire Police said: "We've obviously got severe weather conditions everywhere in the county.
"All of the roads in the county have at least a small covering of snow.
"The gritters have been out but it's so bad that we've even had a snow plough go off the road.
"We're encouraging people not to travel unless it's absolutely necessary, to keep their road speeds very low and just to be very, very patient."
