Arthur Sunderland is in hospital while Joy was swept away on a wave |
The family of a Lincolnshire pensioner missing after the Asian tsunami have headed to Phuket to help in the search. Joy Sunderland, 77, a grandmother-of-four, from Stamford, was on holiday with husband Arthur in Phuket when she was swept away by the giant wave.
Her two daughters, Faith and Una, have flown out to help in the search for her. Mr Sunderland is recovering in a Bangkok hospital.
Mrs Sunderland's sister-in-law Pamela Potts said they had had no news.
She said: "They are giving the Thai authorities details about what she was wearing and that's all I know.
"We are just waiting on the end of the phone. It's absolutely tragic."
A family liaison officer from Greater Manchester Police has visited the family.
A force spokesman said: "Arthur was rescued and admitted to hospital in Phuket.
"He was later transferred to a hospital in Bangkok. Joyce is still missing."
