Plea for more festive recycling
People across Lincoln are being encouraged to consider the environment and get recycling this Christmas.

Seven hundred tonnes of extra waste is produced in the city over the festive period - three times the normal amount.

This year the city council is reminding people that 70% of household rubbish can be recycled.

Used Christmas cards can be handed into Tesco or W H Smith, used stamps can be brought into Lincoln city hall and trees can be left out for collection.

Figures from across the country show that after Christmas, residents throw away over two billion Christmas cards and enough wrapping paper to cover an area larger than Guernsey.

The council says with a little extra consideration a huge quantity of material need not be wasted.
