Luke Walmsley: Stabbed at school |
A schoolboy accused of murdering a fellow pupil had threatened another student with a knife about an hour before the killing, a jury has heard. Luke Walmsley, 14, was stabbed to death at a Lincolnshire school last November.
A 16-year-old student at Birkbeck Secondary School, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has denied murder.
At Nottingham Crown Court on Wednesday, another student said the defendant had put a knife to his throat in a row over Manchester United.
The teenager told police he felt something cold on his neck when the other pupil suddenly turned on him as they talked about a football match.
He said the defendant was a Manchester United supporter and he had asked him if he had seen a match the night before.
He said: "He was saying that Man United were going to win the championship, and I said no they were not because they were crap.
"He pulled something out of his pocket and put it to my throat.
"I didn't see what it was. I thought it was a pair of scissors.
"It touched my throat, it was cold so I assumed it was metal.

"I couldn't tell whether he was laughing about or being serious."
Just over an hour later, Luke was stabbed in the chest outside a science class at the school in North Somercotes.
The court also heard that the defendant had told an ex-girlfriend he hated Luke and threatened to stab him in the weeks leading up to the incident.
The court was shown a video of a police interview in which the girl said: "He said that he hated Luke and just that he was going to stab him.
"I didn't believe him. I just thought he was joking."
The trial continues.
