Police in Cumbria have caught a prisoner who escaped from a Lincolnshire jail and went on the run with his 10-year-old son. Karl Gaskin, 31, absconded from the North Sea Camp Prison near Boston on Christmas Day.
He was serving a five-year sentence for wounding and criminal damage.
Police officers said they believed Gaskin was preparing to flee the country when he was arrested in the town of Penrith.
Lincolnshire Police said his 10-year-old son was not with his father when he was arrested.
The boy was reunited with his mother on Friday afternoon and is said to be in good health.
The prisoner had abducted his son from south Lincolnshire soon after leaving the prison.
The escaped prisoner telephoned the police several times to "gloat" about his escape, his wife Soraya said.
Detective Chief Inspector Glen Harris says Gaskin's son is in good health.
"There's been no grave concern that his father wouldn't look after him and he appears to have been well looked after.
"I think he's had a good wash and scrub-up since he got back home, but he's in good fettle.
"I've spoken to his mum - she's absolutely relieved it's all over and she was just ecstatic to have him back home."
