| A large wood in Lincolnshire is to be cut down and restored to how it was hundreds of years ago. Stapleford Wood opened to the public in 1945 and has been intensively planted with pine trees during that time. But new evidence shows the 750 acre site dates back many centuries and as such is classed as ancient woodland. Over the next 50 years the Forestry Commission will replace most of the trees with native varieties such as oak, rowan and willow.
