Misconduct jury visits road land
The jury in the trial of a former leader of Lincolnshire County Council visited the land at the centre of the case on Monday.

Jim Speechley, 67, from Crowland, is accused of trying to influence the route of a new road so it would run close to a field he owned.

The jury was brought from Sheffield Crown Court to inspect the land.

Mr Speechley denies the charge of misconduct while in public office.

He bought the field in 1971 but the prosecution claims he did not mention this fact in council meetings where the road was discussed.

The value of the land would have risen sharply if the plans to improve the A1073 had gone ahead.

Mr Speechley subsequently sold the land in 2002.

The trial is expected to last another five weeks.
