A church leader in Lincolnshire says a remote church has been desecrated by satanists. It is claimed that St Botolph's Church in Skidbrooke, near Louth, has been used for animal sacrifices and other satanic activities.
The medieval church, in an isolated area, has not been used for Christian worship for 30 years.
Some local residents say the stonework is marked with black satanic symbols and the remains of dead animals have been found nearby.
Lack of respect
Local church leaders are to meet with the Churches Conservation Trust, which owns the building, to see what action should be taken.
The Rector of Louth, Canon Stephen Holdaway, says: "Satanists have been desecrating this church by painting pillars black and having animal sacrifices there.
"No-one has seen this happening because it is so isolated, but people have seen fires burning and odd activities going on.
"This sort of activity shows no respect for the people who are buried there."
A spokesperson for the conservation trust said: "The church has occasionally been mistreated in the past, but we have no intention of denying public access... because of the errant behaviour of a few."
The trust describes the church as "a magnificent medieval marshland church with a special charm and character".
