More than 1m of damages was caused during the riot |
More work is planned for Lincoln Prison to repair damage caused by riots in October 2002. The refurbishment follows repairs carried out to one of the prison's wings after riots caused extensive damage.
It took prison officers and police more than eight hours to bring the riot at the Victorian-era prison under control.
A year after the disturbance, only one landing on the prison's A wing is fully in use.
The Prison Service has decided to modernise the wing to accommodate 190 inmates.
The work is scheduled to start in December 2003 and the prison wing should reopen in January 2006.
The riot caused damage to cells and equipment at the prison, and one man died of a drug overdose during the incident.
