Two dozen people have been charged with prison mutiny following an investigation into an eight-hour prison riot last year, police said. Lee Blake, 37, died from a drug overdose during the riot at Lincoln Prison in October 2002 and more than 20 other prisoners were taken to hospital suffering the effects of drugs.
Inmates allegedly took control of Lincoln Prison and broke into a pharmacy during the incident.
Some of the accused also face charges of assault and theft, a Lincolnshire Police spokesman said.
Of the 24 men charged, 11 are still serving prisoners, while 13 have been released since the disturbance, police said.
They are all due to appear before Lincoln magistrates on 14 October.
