Battle over bypass compensation
A bypass
Payments of up to 100,000 have not been made
Farmers in south Lincolnshire have criticised the local authority over a seven year wait for compensation.

The landowners say they still have not received up to 100,000 in payments from the county council.

Their land was bought to build the A16 Deepings bypass, which opened five years ago.

Lincolnshire County Council has agreed payment is long overdue and says it will be made very soon.

Not accountable

But farmer Eddie Whitfield has criticised the situation.

He said: "It's the principle of the thing. That they can compulsorily purchase the land in the first place and then keep us waiting for seven years for our money, which has got to be wrong.

"I believe the government should do something to make it fairer for all parties concerned.

"I mean, if we ran our businesses like some of these councils seem to operate, we would be in trouble.

"It just seems to me that they are not accountable to anyone."
