The track operators had faced legal and planning issues |
Bosses at Donington Park say they are confident the circuit will host the British Grand Prix next year. Formula 1 boss Bernie Ecclestone wants to see evidence that funds and plans are in place ahead of July's race. Work to revamp the Leicestershire circuit began in February and it will cost about £80m to bring it up to standard for the event. A Donington Park spokesman said he was confident that the race would go ahead as planned. The company which operates the track has faced legal and planning problems since being given the rights to stage the race. Motor racing at Donington Park ended last month so work could begin to prepare the venue for next year's grand prix. The last major race at Donington was the British Moto GP in July. Donington Park secured the contract to host the British Grand Prix from next year in July 2008, at the expense of Silverstone which has been home to the race since 1987.
