F1 track decision due in new year

The British Grand Prix will move to Leicestershire in 2010

A decision on plans to redevelop Donington Park race track will be made at a special meeting in January.

Bosses want to extend and upgrade the circuit in Leicestershire in preparation for when it begins hosting the British Grand Prix in 2010.

An application was submitted in September with the hope that it would be discussed before Christmas.

But North West Leicestershire District Council has announced it will make a decision on the plans on 8 January.

The announcement that the Grand Prix was moving from Silverstone to Donington was made in June.

Donington Park bosses signed a 10-year contract to host the race and pledged to spend about �100m on overall improvements at the circuit.

Plans include lengthening the track to three miles (4.8km) and building a new pit complex, along with a race control centre and specific areas for television and other media.

Donington Park has hosted the British Motorcycle Grand Prix since 1987 and last hosted a Grand Prix race in 1993, won by Ayrton Senna.
