Landlords increase pub drug bans
Tougher measures to combat underage drinking, drug abuse and fake IDs have been brought in by landlords and club owners in a Leicestershire town.

Harborough Pubwatch agreed the only ID accepted will now be a photo driving licence or passport after reports of fake photo cards being used.

The ban for possession of Class A drugs has been increased to a year.

The move comes just weeks after eight out of nine shops sold alcohol to a underage girl in a series of tests.

Dr Sarah Hill, portfolio holder for Community Safety on Harborough District Council, said: "We have had some poor test sale results in the past so it is good to see action being taken to help combat underage drinking.

"Having the new measures regarding drugs reinforces the message that illegal drug taking of any kind will not be tolerated in Harborough pubs."

Harborough Pubwatch, which has 16 members, was set up two years ago as part of the Harborough Community Safety Partnership, which includes police, fire service and local councils.
