A major motorway was hit by an unusual traffic delay on Friday when a boat came off the back of a lorry. The narrowboat slid off the lorry on the M1 in Leicestershire at junction 22 near Markfield.
It blocked the inside lane of the southbound carriageway for at least two hours before it was cleared away.
The green narrowboat, named Karian, caused substantial tailbacks between junctions 21 and 22, photographer Stephen Marriott said.
Crews from Leicestershire Fire Service in Coalville and Loughborough helped to remove the boat from the motorway.
