Matt Hampson was paralysed from the neck down |
Leicester Tigers fans are being thanked for raising around 200,000 for Tigers Academy player Matt Hampson who broke his neck earlier this year. The money will go into a trust fund to care for the player, who is paralysed in Stoke Mandeville hospital.
He needed specialist surgery after being injured during an England under-21 scrummaging session in March.
The latest fundraising venture is sponsoring Tigers President Roy Jackson to shed the pounds.
He said: "In a word, I need to lose weight. I thought it was a great idea to raise funds for Matt and it's working very well.
"I've lost over a stone in three weeks and I've had a lot promises and I've had a lot of money donated and I think I should reach my target of 10,000 and a three stone loss."
