Residents get hump at speed bumps
Residents who claim speed humps are damaging their cars look set to lose their battle to get them reduced.

Leicester City Council has already set aside money to reduce the size of bumps in Melbourne Road because new low-floor buses cannot get over them.

But the council claims it would cost too much to lower the older-style bumps in surrounding areas as well, despite pleas by householders.

Ward councillors said they would continue to campaign for local people.

Exhaust damage

The city council said there was no funding available to alter the humps on side streets in the Spinney Hills area.

They were installed early on in the city's road calming schemes, and are larger than more modern bumps.

The council, however, said they were still within government size limits.

Some residents in the area said they had caused exhaust damage and damage to the front of their cars, despite travelling within speed limits.

Ward councillor Mustafa Karim said: "The residents want them reducing.

"We have found some of the bumps have deteriorated completely as well and have not been maintained properly.

"We will still be campaigning."

The bumps in Melbourne Road are set to be lowered to enable bus firm First to use its new vehicles.
