Train campaign 'sat in sidings'
A council campaign to get more trains to call at a Leicestershire station has gone unanswered for two months.

Oadby and Wigston Borough Council wants to meet Central Trains bosses over the lack of service for passengers at South Wigston station.

The council sent more than 20 messages asking to meet, but received no reply.

The company said many of the messages were sent to a manager who had been off work but the firm now wants to open a discussion as soon as possible.

Councillors say the 28 trains a day calling at South Wigston is not enough to encourage residents to use it as a reliable method to travelling to work.

The council claims the frequency of trains has been dropping, and a lack of rolling stock is not an acceptable excuse.

The service south of Leicester towards Nuneaton and Birmingham calls hourly at Narborough and Hinckley, but only every two hours at South Wigston.
