The banner will hang on St Martin's Cathedral for three months |
Worshippers in Leicester have unveiled a huge banner calling on the government to do more for poor countries. The Make Poverty History Campaign is encouraging the world's most powerful nations to help millions of people in developing countries.
The white banner is attached to the scaffolding on St Martin's Cathedral.
The Bishop of Leicester, the Right Reverend Tim Stevens, helped to unveil the banner, which is due to stay on the cathedral for three months.
Bishop Stevens said: "This giant banner announces to the people of Leicester that the church is going all out to persuade governments to change the lives of real people."
The year-long Make Poverty History Campaign is a coalition against world poverty.
It involves churches and anti-povery groups calling for urgent action to improve the lives of millions of people who have to live on less than a dollar a day.
It coincides with the UK government hosting the G8 and holding the EU presidency in 2005.
