Sickness outbreak at nursery
S. typhimurium - one of the 2,500 types of Salmonella
Salmonella is suspected at a Leicestershire nursery
A children's nursery in Leicestershire has been closed following an outbreak of suspected salmonella poisoning.

Some 21 children are thought to be affected at the Leapfrog day nursery in Narborough. It closed voluntarily on Wednesday when children fell ill.

Environmental health officers from Blaby District Council are working with staff from the Leicestershire Health Protection Unit.

They are trying to pinpoint the cause of serious diarrhoea and vomiting.

Tests will confirm whether it is salmonella and how it came to affect the children.

Anyone worried their child could be affected by the illness should contact their GP.
