Parents make appeal to save baby
Harriet Stobbs
Doctors believe Harriet only has days to live
The parents of a 13-month-old baby girl have made an appeal for a liver donor to help save her life.

Harriet Stobbs, from Ashby-de-la-Zouch, Leics, has spent most of her life in hospital after being born prematurely and is said to have only days to live.

She developed a bowel problem during treatment, causing liver failure.

Her parents, Kath, 33, and Rob, 30, are now appealing for people to join the Organ Donor Register to give their daughter a chance of life.

Harriet has a rare blood group - AB - which makes the chances of a donor matching even lower than normal.

Mr Stobbs said: "I would just like people to consider organ donation.

"I realise it is a very difficult decision for anyone to make because they are going through a very difficult time themselves.

"We just want to ensure people know there are a lot of people in desperate need of organs and Harriet is one of them.

"We're just hoping someone can help us."

Harriet is currently at Birmingham Children's Hospital.

Hospital spokesman Alan Taman said: "The more donors there are, the less often hospitals like us will have to face the agonising process of watching children die needlessly."

More than 6,000 people in the UK are currently waiting for an organ transplant.

But less than 3,000 transplants are carried out each year and around 400 people died last year waiting for a transplant.
