Police officers are training to become FA-approved football coaches to help them work with young people on their community beats. Twenty officers from Leics have signed up for the five-day course, which includes training in child protection.
Four community support officers will also take part.
Sgt Shane Luck said: "The course will give each person the skills to go into youth clubs and schools and help teach children and young people how to play."
He added: "The community side of policing is vital if officers are to succeed in promoting trust and confidence in the police service among young people."
The officers are taking part in the course at Leicestershire and Rutland County FA Ground in Whetstone in their own time.
