Penalty for adult drink suppliers
Adults caught buying alcohol for teenagers are to be fined 80 by police in part of Leicestershire.

Officers in Oadby and Wigston said they were concerned many young people get hold of drink through their parents.

The scheme follows Operation Helium, which targeted underage drinkers and antisocial behaviour in local parks in the borough.

Officers will visit all local off licences, putting up posters about the offence and its consequences.

Licensing sergeant for Oadby and Wigston Sgt Mark Wilkinson said: "A small number of adults seem to think it is acceptable to purchase alcohol on behalf of the under 18s which then enables them to get drunk.

"This has a direct impact on the amount of anti-social behaviour and crime committed in and around the borough."
