Supermarket plan set to collapse
Long-running plans to build a new superstore in the centre of Hinckley appear to have collapsed.

Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council signed a deal with Morrisons, back in 2002, to build a superstore on the site of the former bus station.

But the council has announced it is pulling out of a deal with the supermarket chain.

Local opposition and corporate uncertainty has led it to give notice it is withdrawing.

An unofficial ballot suggested fewer than 10% of people in the town were in favour of the store being built.

The Morrisons takeover of the Safeway on Normandy Way led the company to question whether it still wanted to build a store on the bus station site.

The council has now given Morrisons three months notice that the agreement will be terminated.
