'Space school' launches new term
Leicester's Space School is hoping to develop new researchers and astronauts of the future.

The two week course has attracted students aged 14-18 from as far afield as Oman and Beijing.

Sunday is the first day of the course at the University of Leicester where students will learn about humans in space and rocket technology.

The session on space medicine has become so popular it has been developed into a day conference.

Expert advice

Other subjects taught include the planet Mars and whether there may be extra-terrestrial life.

This is the 15th year of the Space School and some former students are now working for organisations such as Nasa and the European Space Agency.

Jean Collins, the head of Space School, said: "Space School UK is a great opportunity for young scientists with an interest in space to immerse themselves in the subject.

"They can learn first-hand from experts who work in space research and related industries."
