Thieves hit Leicestershire farms

Farm machinery is being targeted by thieves
Criminals are targeting machinery and diesel from farms in rural parts of Leicestershire.

An insurance company specialising in losses suffered by farmers says there has been an increase in claims for theft from farms in the county.

NFU Mutual says horse trailers and diesel from vehicles have been stolen, as well as items in horseboxes and cars at summer shows.

It says a single gang travelling from area to area could be responsible.

Most of the increased crime has taken place on isolated properties, so farmers need to be vigilant, the company said.

Farmers are being urged to take extra security measures, such as introducing floodlighting and guard dogs.
