It is illegal to use handheld phones while driving
Hundreds of motorists in Leicestershire and Rutland have been fined for using mobile phones while driving.

The government outlawed the use of handheld phones in December, introducing minimum fines of 30 for cars and 2,500 for buses and lorries.

Since then, Leicestershire Police have issued 272 tickets to people who were driving and using their phone.

Police said one of those fines was given to someone who was supervising a learner driver.
