Extra probation officers are to be employed in Leicestershire. It follows the introduction of new sentences which see offenders serving their punishment in the community.
The Government has pledged 100,000 to ensure it has enough officers to strengthen their role in managing offenders and protecting residents.
Some of the extra money has also been put aside to monitor offenders more closely when they are released from prison.
They will particularly be concerned with supervising 'high risk' ex-offenders.
