The last flights to Barcelona depart next month |
Two low-cost airlines are abandoning their flights between the East Midlands and Barcelona. Bmibaby and easyJet say the decision was made due to poor ticket sales and their inability to secure better slots at Barcelona airport.
A bmibaby spokeswoman said the airline would be better served by "putting aircraft elsewhere".
Bmibaby will end the route from 29 June and easyJet will stop flights from 9 June.
Bmibaby said people with bookings could transfer them to Manchester or receive a refund.
The decision comes in the same week that the East Midlands Development Agency sent a delegation to Barcelona in the hope of forging better links with the region of Catalonia.
Bmibaby was a co-sponsor of the event, held in the Spanish city on Tuesday night.
