Police say most youths are law abiding |
Police in part of Leicestershire have been given powers to split up groups of people they think are likely to act in an anti-social manner. Oadby and Wigston Borough Council granted the dispersal powers at a meeting earlier this week.
Officers will be able to escort anyone under the age of 16 home between 9pm and 6am if they are not under the control of an adult.
The powers are granted under the Anti-Social Behaviour Act (2003).
Inspector Martin Halse, from Leicestershire Police, said: "We recognise that the majority of youths in our area are responsible and law abiding and we will be targeting only those whose behaviour is intimidating and threatening to local people.
"We will be focusing our efforts on several areas and we hope to see a significant and positive impact on local communities here."
