Protest over Speechley road route
Pressure is being put on Lincolnshire County Council by campaigners who say it should scrap the route chosen for the A1073 Crowland bypass.

The Cowbit Road Action Committee claim the planning process was discredited at the Jim Speechley trial.

The former council leader was jailed after a jury decided he had tried to benefit financially from the route of the new road.

The committee said the route is too long and has dangerous areas.

The Chairman of the Committee, Doug Braybrooks, felt it defied common sense to continue plans for this road.

He said: "At the very least they should stop the process going any further and any more money being wasted on a totally discredited route.

"They should give our preferred route, the blue route, a fair crack of the whip, which it has not had until now."

The council has not yet given a reaction to the group's demands.
