The head teacher of New College in Leicester is quitting his post. The college was set up in 1999 and has been plagued by problems.
In December it was placed in special measures by OFSTED inspectors and for the past two years it has recorded the city's worst GCSE results.
Principal Jim Collins is leaving his job at the end of the spring term, just 18 months after taking over and at a time when governors have announced teaching redundancies.
The cuts are being made in order to cope with a budget shortfall.
The Director of Education Steven Andrews has paid tribute to Mr Collins, thanking him for his hard work and for his commitment to improving the college.
In January the college was listed in league tables as being among the 200 worst performing schools in the country.
