Forest well on way to recovery

Replanting underway in the National Forest
Experts say part of the National Forest in Leicestershire, which was devastated by fire 12 months ago, is well on the way to recovery.

Many species of wildlife were killed off in the blaze at the Sence Valley Forest Park at Ibstock.

Almost one third of the 150 acre site was affected.

The fire, which was started deliberately, is believed to have set its development back by around three years.

Growing again

During the past year, a large programme of replanting has been undertaken.

Hugh Williams from the National Forest says the work has changed the face of the park.

"There are many ways one can look at perhaps what is a silver lining to a particular cloud.

"The trees are alive and growing back and it has added a different variety of species.

"The birds are still singing and people are enjoying the site.

"It is back on its feet and beginning to grow well."
