Bus posters carry police warning
Warnings are being posted on Leicester's buses to alert people to the police's new powers to order people out of the city.

A "dispersal zone" is now in operation so officers can send people away if they are acting anti-socially and arrest them if they refuse.

Posters on the buses will show the map of the zone and carry the message "Behave or be Banned".

It is part of Operation Lion, a move to cut down on alcohol-related crime.

Troublesome minority

Members of groups who do not live in the area where they are found will be banned from the area for 24 hours.

Between 9pm and 6am officers also have the right to escort anyone under the age of 16, who is not in the effective control of an adult, back home.

Officers say since the start of July, when the powers came in, they have been used on numerous occasions.

Insp Ian Coulton, city local policing unit commander, said: "For the small minority who are intent on causing trouble, my message is either behave or be prepared to face the consequences."
