People living near a hospital say plans to introduce parking charges will make traffic problems in the area worse. Residents living near Leicester General Hospital want pedestrian crossings to be installed before the parking charges are introduced.
They have collected more than 100 signatures from people living in and around the Coleman Road area.
The protesters are worried more people will park outside the hospital to avoid paying.
The NHS Trust announced at the end of last year it planned to introduce charges at the Leicester General and Glenfield Hospitals.
Many people have already complained these will hit thousands of patients and their families when they are at their most vulnerable.
Residents say vehicles parking on both sides of the roads are already blocking the flow of traffic, including ambulances.
Their petition calling for safety measures will be handed to the Trust's chief executive on Friday.
Tanya Rashid, who organised the petition, said: "We've already got bad parking in the sense of people parking there at the moment.
"I think the charges at the hospital will create even more havoc because people just don't want to pay the charges.
"We've got a lot of problems, not only with the parking, but with people crossing, the elderly, the schoolchildren - that's creating a hell of a lot of problems on the Coleman Road itself."
