The track first held the Grand Prix in 1938 |
Reports that Donington Park is being considered as an alternative to Silverstone for the British Grand Prix are being played down by the circuit's managers. It follows a visit to the track by one of the sport's most influential figures, Max Mosley.
Donington Park first staged the Grand Prix racing in the 1930s and hosted the European Grand Prix in 1993.
It is two years since plans to upgrade the track, owned by Tom Wheatcroft were submitted to North West Leicestershire District Council.
The proposals included building a grandstand capable of holding 90,000 people.
They were withdrawn two months ago.
Reports Max Mosley visited the track recently have been confirmed by managers, but they say it was only to watch a race meeting.
Both Mr Mosley and Formula One boss Bernie Ecclestone have consistently questioned Silverstone's future as a Grand Prix venue.
