Theatre sees last performance
Haymarket Theatre
The Haymarket Theatre will close for a indefinite period
Leicester's Haymarket Theatre has hosted its last performance before closing - perhaps for good.

The theatre has built up debts of 450,000 and is to close indefinitely.

The 76 staff whose jobs are on the line will be told next week whether they have a future at the venue.

It is still not clear if and when the theatre will reopen.

Investigatiom underway

Saturday night's performance of Talking with the Taxman about Poetry saw many staff emotional at the prospect of the theatre closing.

The Haymarket's Chief Executive Mandy Stewart, said: "We are looking at a variety of other options that may allow us to remain open.

"It's uncertain and up for grabs but very soon we should know where we stand.

"We should know how we can make producing theatre in this city strong and sustainable."

The Arts Council is investigating how the theatre became to be so badly in debt.
