Improved redundancy deals for staff
Hundreds of biscuit factory workers are to have improved redundancy packages offered to them.

The move follows negotiations over the closure of the United Biscuits factory at Ashby, Leicestershire.

The company announced in February that it was proposing to close the factory by the end of next year with the loss of up to 900 jobs.

Since the announcement, managers and representatives of the Union of Shop, Distributive and Allied Workers (USDAW) have been in talks with workers over redundancy packages for those affected.

Now in a joint statement, they say an improved offer which is above the statutory minimum will be put to workers over the next fortnight.

The union says its urging people to accept the terms being offered, though details have not yet been published.
