A teenage girl found hanged at a Nottingham children's home had endured months of bullying, an inquest has heard. On the day she died, 15-year-old Sarah Harrison phoned her mother to say the abuse from other youngsters had become too much.
She was found hanging from a door by her bathrobe cord at the home in Mapperley.
The Nottingham City Council-run home is currently closed for refurbishment.
Staff powerless
The inquest was told the bullying started at school but the home proved no safe haven.
The first incident, where Sarah's mobile phone and money were taken, happened just two days after she arrived.
In the final days before her death, graffiti was daubed on her bedroom door.
Social worker Michelle Riley told the inquest at Mansfield Civic Centre that incidents of bullying were recorded, but staff felt powerless to stop them.
The jury also heard there was a culture of drugs and underage sex at the home.
Sarah was in the home nine months before her death on 26 September last year.
The hearing continues.
