A man who claims he was unlawfully arrested by Leicestershire Police has been paid 10,000 in compensation. The 21 year old - from Birmingham - was charged after an incident outside a nightclub in Leicester.
The man - known as Mr A - was visiting friends in December 2000 when he was involved in a fight near the Kudos nightclub.
He was taken to Charles Street Police Station, where he was charged with causing affray, but was acquitted almost a year later after a trial at Leicester Crown Court.
Mr A sued Leicestershire Police for unlawful arrest, false imprisonment, assault and battery and malicious prosecution, claiming his arrest was racially motivated.
The force denies all the accusations but has agreed to pay Mr A 10,000 in an out of court settlement.
It said the decision was taken as an "appropriate business option" rather than an admission of liability.
