Warning given over stray dogs
Stray dog
Owners are laible for kennelling costs
Dog wardens in Hinckley and Bosworth are warning that dog owners could be landed with hefty kennelling fees if their pets go missing.

Over 200 strays have been picked up by the borough council in the last 12 months.

Of the 224 stray animals picked up by the dog wardens last year, nearly 100 had to be rehomed.

Owners who came forward to reclaim their dogs had to pay a statutory fee and daily kennelling charges before they got their animals back.

Sensible precautions

The Environmental services department are advising pet owners to take basic precautions over the bank holiday weekend to make sure their pets do not stray.

Keeping your garden secure, ensuring gates are not left unlocked and making sure the dog has a collar with a tag and address on is also vital.

Environmental Health Manager Rob Parkinson is urging pet owners to keep an eye on their animals over the bank holiday period.

He said: "We are still getting far too many strays and we are urging owners to take sensible precautions to make sure their pets do not get out on to thte streets unattended."
