Fans queue for tickets to final

Graham Alexander scores (Burnley v Reading, 9 May 2009)
The club says it has 22,000 seats at Wembley for priority ticket holders

Dozens of Burnley FC fans camped in tents overnight outside Turf Moor to get tickets for the club's bid to return to the top flight.

Hundreds of fans queued to get their hands on the 36,000 tickets for the club's play-off final at Wembley against Sheffield United FC.

Season ticket holder Ryan Singleton, 17, from Burnley, secured the first seat for the game on 25 May.

"I wanted to be able to say I got the first Wembley ticket," he said.

Making history

Mr Singleton said he and his two friends put their tent up at 2045 BST on Wednesday to make sure they were first in the queue.

"Within a half an hour there were about seven tents as people saw what we were up to and wanted to get in on it," he said.

"This is history in the making and we wanted to be part of it."

Darren Bentley, from Burnley FC, said priority ticket holders should have no issues securing a seat.

"We have got 22,000 tickets at the club for those priority customers, which could last until Tuesday or Wednesday next week," he explained.

"So if you are a season ticket holder, shareholder or a foundation member there's really no panic to be in that queue."

The last time Burnley played in the top division of English football was in 1976.
