The firm said it was not an easy decision to close |
A factory in Lancashire which claims to be the largest CD manufacturing facility in the UK is to close down with the loss of 260 jobs. EDC Blackburn is to shut in December its owners have announced, with production moving to Hannover, Germany. EDC on Phillips Road has been making discs there since the mid 1980s and produces the CD for the winner of ITV1's The X Factor. The firm's chief executive said the closure decision was "not an easy one". 'Careful evaluation' The decision was a result of a "strategic review process" over the last two years, EDC said. Robert Chapman, EDC chief executive officer, said: "This decision was carefully evaluated, and not an easy one for EDC to make. It in no way or form reflects upon the performance or quality of work undertaken by EDC's UK employees." The factory at Blackburn has the capacity to produce 650,000 discs per day.
