Motorists were diverted away from a small section of the lights |
Emergency sewer work which interrupted Blackpool's famous illuminations has finished early. Visitors driving along Blackpool Promenade to see the town's lights were forced to miss some of the illuminations because of the repairs. A section of sewer collapsed two weeks ago resulting in the road closure near the Hilton Hotel, between Gynn Square and Pleasant Street. The repairs have been completed and the road has reopened. Blackpool Council had feared the work could take up to two months. Councillor Maxine Callow, cabinet member of regeneration and tourism, said: "Our officers have worked extremely hard to ensure that work has been carried out as quickly as possible along this popular stretch of road so that our local road users can continue as normal and our visitors can enjoy the illuminations and surrounding attractions with no disruption."
