Sir Howard has a track record in regeneration projects |
The chief executive of Manchester City Council is to take up a part-time post in Blackpool to drive forward the resort's regeneration. Sir Howard Bernstein was appointed chair of ReBlackpool because of his record in delivering city regeneration schemes, the authority said. He has stepped down from his post on the London Olympics Delivery Authority to concentrate on the role. The appointment has been backed by both local and national politicians. ReBlackpool is the body in charge of delivering the Blackpool Masterplan - developed to bring about the social and economic regeneration of the resort. Sir Howard said: "Blackpool is a regional priority and it's a privilege to be part of the team that will drive forward ambitious plans for this strategically important North West town. "A core objective is to maximise the area's contribution to the regional economy and I want to make this vision a reality." Local government minister Hazel Blears said Sir Howard's experience in Manchester would be invaluable in building confidence in the resort.
