The council wants people to sign up to its Smile campaign |
A council in Lancashire has set up a group on a social networking website to try to get people to support a community campaign. Chorley Council says it is the first local authority in England to launch its own page on Facebook.
It wants people to sign up to its Chorley Smile campaign, which aims to encourage residents to improve their own neighbourhoods.
Smile includes pledges, some made by the council and some by residents.

The Facebook group, called "I'm supporting the Chorley Smile campaign" gives details of the pledges, as well as campaign news and photographs.
Councillor Peter Goldsworthy, leader of Chorley Council, said: "The Chorley Smile campaign is about civic pride in our environment and it's about the council doing its bit and residents doing theirs too.
"The pledges are simple and effective and aim to make sure people respect each other and improve their local environment.
"Young people have a part to play in this too and Facebook is a great way to get in touch with them and let them know what we're trying to do."
