Online website nets sex offender
Alexander Dalgleish
Alexander Dalgleish had been on the run for several years
An on-the-run child sex offender whose details were posted on a "most wanted" website has been jailed for a year for failing to register with police.

Alexander Dalgleish, 34, went missing from Preston, Lancashire, in August 2002 and changed his name several times as he travelled in the UK and Ireland.

He was featured on the website launched by the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre (Ceop) last November.

Preston Crown Court heard that police found him after calls from the public.

Convicted paedophiles

The Ceop project publishes the details of convicted paedophiles who have failed to report to police.

Dalgleish was sentenced to 12 months in jail for theft and for failing to comply with his notification requirements.

Jim Gamble, chief executive of Ceop, said: "Offenders who believe they can evade escape management by going on the run underestimate our determination to track them down.

"With the public's help we are finding these offenders one by one."

Det Con Dave Jackson said: "Today's (Monday's) sentence brings to an end a difficult inquiry to trace Alexander Dalgleish.

"We are grateful to the public for their support in helping us to locate him and put him before the court for failing to register."
