MP speaks out over hospital plans
Kitty Ussher
Ms Ussher has concerns over plans to cut A&E provision
Plans to change hospital provision in East Lancashire are unacceptable, a local MP has claimed.

The Burnley MP Kitty Ussher has outlined 10 concerns over the plans to cut accident and emergency (A&E) provision at Burnley General Hospital.

The East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust has two options, leaving Queen's Park Hospital, Blackburn the main A&E unit.

But the trust argues minor injuries and illnesses at Burnley will be treated, the majority of A&E admissions.

However, Ms Ussher said both options put to local people were unacceptable.

She cited extra travelling time from Burnley to Blackburn, a lack of paramedics and problems with the consultation process as reasons to think again on the matter.

The final decision on the hospital changes will be taken by local primary care trusts before the end of the year.
